When seeing a new project and meeting a client for the first time, we always ask what they think of the existing paint quality in their home or the quality of workmanship from their last interior painter. The response we most often hear is it was “OK.”

You work hard and you wouldn’t sacrifice on quality, when creating your perfect home don’t settle for just “OK”. Life is too short to be disappointed with average. Your home deserves to be amazing.

When describing quality, it’s hard not to use words like better or best, everyone thinks their work is the best and speak at great length about it. While we would never claim to be the best, we will claim that we do things very differently, and we think our clients would agree.
Unsatisfied with the idea of being another average interior painting contractor, we knew we could do more and get better results. We really just wanted to give people more. So we stepped out of the average crowd, developed our own processes and have spent the last 20 years honing our interior painting craft.

By blending fine furniture finishing and luxury automotive painting techniques, we went way outside the typical interior painting standard and created our own world-class standard. HOW DO Our Interior Painters ACHIEVE THE “FLAWLESS FINISH?”

Our interior painters are meticulous in everything they do

The number one key to our success over the years, and what’s made our interior painting stand out, is being meticulously attentive to detail. We are obsessed with perfection. With high power lights always in hand, we meticulously comb over every single square inch of your interior painting project with every process we perform, we don’t miss a thing.

While we may be interior painters in Wellesley MA, we actually spend very little time actually painting interiors.   On most projects, the majority of our time is spent doing prep work. It would be more appropriate to call us professional interior “preppers” than professional interior painters.

Sanding, sanding, and more sanding, and then.. even more sanding

Most interior painting projects we look at, we see rooms that have over the years been painted more than once. Each coat from a different painter or even from a homeowner themselves, all with different brands and quality of paints that were used and all with different levels of prep along the way. It’s quite often we see woodwork with lots of brush marks and walls that show years of wear.

Let the sanding begin.

We’ve developed quite a relationship with sandpaper over the years. If you’ve ever spent time sanding anything, you’ll know that it’s not a glamorous task. Love it or hate it, you’ll definitely appreciate the effort when applying a new paint finish over a perfectly sanded and leveled surface. And if you’ve ever painted anything without doing much prep work, you quickly realize that a fresh coat of paint only looks as good as what’s underneath it. Even the best paint in the world won’t cover up bad prep or poor sanding. In order to get a flawlessly flat and perfect finish, all of the old work and imperfections must be sanded and leveled perfectly flat to create a solid foundation to build our new finish coats on.

Making the imperfect perfect

After the first sanding pass is completed and after a thorough cleanup you really get to see the true surface of what you’re working with. This is where the high-power lights we use really make all the difference. In order to see every last imperfection, we inspect every single inch of a project with these lights. With such a thorough sanding and by using the lights at the correct angles, all imperfections really come to the surface of walls and woodwork, and this is where all the necessary repair work starts to show up. We must fix and fill all imperfections to create a perfectly level base for our finish coats. There are many different types of fillers we use for walls and for woodwork, generally most fillers require multiple applications and once they’re cured, and they must be sanded as well to level them to perfectly meet the surface they’re applied to. There is literally nothing we can’t fix, so let the kids use the hoverboard in the house, and by all means get another dog, we fix it all.

Priming and sealing

Once all surfaces are sanded, imperfections filled and everything is leveled perfectly and evenly, we then have to seal everything we’ve done up until this point. After so much prep work of filling and sanding, while everything now is perfectly leveled all surfaces are quite porous and require sealing. After a thorough cleanup, we vacuum and tack cloth all surfaces to ensure that everything is immaculate before sealing. We then apply two full primer coats to all surfaces to ensure everything is adequately sealed and to build up a base-coat for the following topcoats which will even further level and smooth all surfaces.

And then more sanding

After the build coats of sealer have finished drying we then sand everything again but this time we focus mostly on woodwork. This sanding pass is done with a much finer sandpaper and is intended to knock down and level any texture the seal coats leave behind. Now is also the time where we do any last fine spot filling if necessary, and once again we inspect all surfaces of the entire project with our high power lights, going over every last square inch to fine tune anything that is necessary. 
Final painting

This is where all the prep work pays off. We apply 3 coats of enamel on all woodwork surfaces and 2 coats of wall and ceiling finish. The difference in feel between one, two and three coats is both visible and immediately noticeable when the surfaces are touched. The more coats especially on woodwork, the more velvety smooth to the touch it will be and it will also appear perfectly level when looking at it from any angle. This is our standard.

Cleaning

You can’t have an immaculate paint finish without keeping an immaculate work site. By employing the use of HEPA filters, performing daily cleanups and inspections, we keep our work environment as clean as can be throughout the entire process.

We only use the highest quality interior painting products

The difference between a high-quality interior paint and a low-quality interior paint is night and day. Look, feel and longevity are factors that drive us to always use the best quality products available. In our experience there are no shortcuts or miracle paints. While many products claim to be time savers, we’ve found the old adage to be true: “you get what you pay for.”

Hand select and train our own interior painters

The final major key to our system is training. It’s often overlooked and just assumed that one experienced painter is as good as the next, but because processes vary significantly from interior painting contractor to interior painting contractor, we’ve found that when we hire an “experienced painter” often times they must be re-trained. Over the years we’ve developed our own training systems in order to always provide consistent quality and reliable results. We never use subcontractors and you can be sure every one of our employees is hand selected and thoroughly trained in the “world-class” way.
